Festival Foods
Festivals are special occasion which I always wait for. The main reason I wait for festivals is.. Fooood..!!
When I was a small kid.. ours' was a middle class family. We never had evening snacks after school.. never had regular fruits.. no frequent biscuits.. no cream biscuits at all unless any guest buys it for us. When I return from school and I am hungry, there will be some left over afternoon rice and kozhambu. The same rice is not exciting, but I'm hungry. So, to make it interesting, I will ask my mom to make balls of the kuzhambu rice and give it in my hands.. That's heaven! This was the routine in my childhood.
Festivals are the days when mom used to cook a heavy meals with many items on the menu, and the highlight is.. food served on banana leaves !! The smell of the deep frying vadai and the agarbathi.. blends to give the festivals a very unique feeling. Those days neighbours used to exchange their festival goodies.. which makes me long for festivals.
Most of the time, the festival menu used to be vadai, sarkarai pongal, sundal, sambar, rasam, moru, 3 vegetable side dishes etc. When I was a kid, I was not a big fan of non-veg food, so this full vegetarian meal always was the reason to wait for festivals.
I am happy to share some of the festival foods in this page..
