This white veg biryani i got it from a food magazine. i am generally not much interested in veg biryani. if the side is potato chips, then iam okay with veg biryani. but this white biryani was with a little twist.. coconut milk is one of the ingredient !


any rice or biryani or birinji made with coconut milk.. i always have a crush for it. in this recipe, the water is not totally replaced with coconut milk, but just little will do.

Murungai keerai poriyal is what I love from my childhood. One of our neighbours used to make raagi koozhu / porridge during the Tamil month of Aadi. They used to make dry-fish kuzhambu and murungai keerai poriyal along with this porridge. I loved that raagi koozhu/poridge along with this murungai keerai poriyal. Anyone who had this raagi porridge with murungai keerai poriyal or dry-fish kuzhambu will know what an unique country-food combination it is.

Its the season for the mochai kaai and thuvarai. these beautiful beans suddenly.. from nowhere.. occupy the shelves of the market.. during this December and January months.. all fresh and tempting us to carry a kilo of them to home.


i have actually never used this mochai kai (green lilva beans) though i have tried mochai kottai (dry lilva beans).

Arai keerai (Amaranthus dubius) masiyal (in Tamil) is another mild keerai kuzhambu made without dhal. So if you want to finish the keerai (greens) in the afternoon itself and not for dinner, then this is the ideal kuzhambu with keerai. The quantity of kuzhambu yielded is less. My mom used to name this kuzhambu as araikeerai puli pottu kadayal.
