Murungai Keerai Soup / Drumstick Greens Soup - Health Potion

Murungai Keerai Soup - Health Potion

I got this recipe for my daughter. It is hard for me to make my daughter consume drumstick leaves. Since I know the health benefits of murungai keerai, I cannot let my daughter go without consuming it in any form. She will consume the keerai few spoon if I force her. But one day I will definitely make her eat it with love.

My Precious loves soups. So got this recipe for her. It cannot be as good as eating greens.. still something is better than nothing.. especially murungai keerai for girls -  is a must.

Murungai keerai - rich in vitamin c, iron, and calcium, helps in balancing the hormones, regular consumption prevents menstrual problems due to hormonal imbalance.

Traditional sesame oil bath and regular consumption of this green helps the girls' menstrual cycle to be regular. Do you believe this? These two activities are interlinked. One complements the other.

The ingredients in this recipe are the herbs from our pantry. Okay lets check out the recipe..

Ingredients: Makes 4 cups

  • Murungai keerai / drumstick leaves - 2 cups tightly packed
  • Tomato - 1 medium
  • Onion - 10 small onions
  • Garlic - one full bulb (10-15 cloves)
  • Thoor dhal - cooked - 1/2 cup
  • Coriander seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 4 cups
  • Salt - as required

Procedure:

  • Take the drumstick leaves along with its stalk. The goodness is there in its stalks too which we generally throw off. But since it is soup, you can add them too.
  • Clean and wash the greens.
  • Take it in a small cooker.
  • Add the cooked dhall, onion, tomato, crushed garlic, cumin, pepper, and coriander seeds to the cooker along with the greens.
  • Add the 4 cups water.
  • Cover the cooker keep it on stove.
  • Let the pressure be released. Now put the pressure weight on cooker.
  • Reduce the stove to low and let it cook for another 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, open the cooker transfer the content into a colander.
  • Take care as the contents are very hot.
  • Squeeze out all the extract from the greens.
  • Let the green cool. Add 1/2 cup more water to this squeezed green and whip it lightly in the blender to make a sort of puree.
  • Again filter this to extract the juice.
  • Take this 2nd extract along with the 1st one and add salt.
  • Keep on stove and let it come to one boil.
  • Hot hot murungai keerai soup is ready to be consumed.

This soup already has pepper flavour so it doesn't need more pepper.
For kids, sprinkle some croutons to make the soup interesting.
Enjoy this health potion as a family. We do it so ЁЯШН.

Happy cooking !!
